For me, there is not much night life downtown. There's a couple of Netflix binge episodes I turn to before staggering to bed, and that's pretty much it, most of the time. Here is a picture of downtown, though, taken a little less than an hour after sundown on a Wednesday night (Feb. 9,) featuring about two human beings and as many cars. This is about two and a half blocks from my apartment building. I must have been going to the store.
I've never eaten at Pickleman's. It's one of those sandwich stores that serves them up each built upon its own laterally bisected loaf of bread. They're into bread, and I hear you get about fifteen choices of what kind you want your lunchmeat on. Too many carbs. Not a fan.
Speaking of carbs, here's the real culprit . . . never been in here, either, but it's nice to have just a little taste of New York.

So nice you're back home here on Original Blogorahman. Thanks for the peek at your neighborhood. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteCarbs. I need to reduce the carbs. No idea how I'm going to do it.
ReplyDeleteCarbs are a tough nut to crack, so to speak. Rule of thumb: any of the various foods that are so good you "can't eat just one," have lots of carbs. Foods that you can take or leave, like Brussel sprouts, or cardboard, have fewer carbs. Humans evolved to crave carbs, sad to say. It worked for hundreds of thousands of years because food was so hard to find, but getting fat had a certain survival value. No one was particularly worried about life span beyond procreation, and "evolution" certainly didn't care that much about it.
ReplyDeleteMy advice--beware most Internet information. Maybe start by raising your awareness. Read the labels, check serving size against carb numbers. Don't do a bagel and a Dr. Pepper each morning.
Sorry. I start to get pedantic on the subject. I'll stop.
You can't mention a place like "Meshuggah Bagels" and then not do a review. Curious to know if these are true NY bagels or if you'd have to be meshuggah to eat them.
ReplyDeleteJYP, unfortunately having type-2 diabetes precludes eating a lot of high-carb content foods, bagels among the worst! So maybe just a little meshuggah.
DeleteI used to like bagels with cream cheese, but I also have to eat "heart healthy" now, which leaves me with, as I often say, Brussel sprouts, cardboard, and steam.
Ahh...well I can't argue with health. I'll just have to live with mystery over meshuggah bagels. Enjoy your brussels sprouts, cardboard, and steam as much as possible!
DeleteYes, well, the outer box of Cheerios works best, and if you steam it a little not too different from domestic pasta.
