A Return to Normalcy

Since I've been vaccinated and no longer think I'm going to die every time I step foot outside the house, I began taking care of a bunch of delayed things, like my dental appointment (wow, and that was just in time, thanks,) and doctor's appointment, and . . . ugh . . . have to call and set up an appointment with an oral surgeon, plus get the oil changed in my car! We went to two restaurants, now, in a flurry of self-indulgence, one lunch place, and one breakfast place, wherein I consumed a week's worth of carbohydrates. Place called The Homesteader, by the way, with a sort of pioneer theme, all the good eats just like the pioneers had, like lots of eggs and lots of butter, and fatty meats, thick slices of wholesome toast, 'taters, you know, like back-to-basics, good ol' real 'merican food, which explains why the life expectancy in the old days was about thirty.
So the question is more like, die of what?
The doctor reports that I am alive. I may even outlive my car, especially if I don't get the oil changed pretty soon.

  1. Yep, everyone is back on the roads, so California freeways are back to scary af. People are partying and shooting each other. Yay, USA.

  2. Oh yay, back to me. I think it's because I signed in first with my biz gmail, but I tried signing out and back in with Paula Light first, then the biz one.

  3. I swear it seems like there is more traffic now than there was just before the pandemic. Where are all these people GOING?? gitoutuhmyway

I am happy to say most people around here are wearing masks and being considerate about distancing. What a change since inauguration.

Thing with blogger is you have to follow "google rules." Sometimes I don't know who I am.

  4. I went downtown today for the first time in ever to go to a cafe and hear a DJ I know and sit with friends I happened to see. We were all masked until someone, I dunno who, me, asked if anyone minded I take this damn thing off and we all did. I kept my chair way back at the next table which meant I barely knew what anyone was saying -- we were outside anyway and the streetcars were scheduled to pass by when someone was talking. It was real nice and the traffic was exactly what it's been, no prob at all. One thing I love about Sacramento as opposed to the Bay or LA Areas is less traffic and less tension on the roadways.

This might mean I'm one of the assholes people complain about, I don't know. I tell people a) I hardly go anywhere or interact with anyone and when I do I gladly adhere to the protocols but b) my mother had her shots so I'm just not worrying about it when with a couple three friends who gladly adhere to the protocols.

  5. Don, I guess it's a matter of probabilities. I am assuming you have not gotten any vaccine yet, which means that for you, nothing has changed. In some areas, anyway, infections are increasing, and quite numerous. Just reading this morning that at least one of the variants, not yet spread much in the U.S., is more infectious and possibly more dangerous for younger people.
Anyway, it's always mostly been about other people--you are protecting them, when you wear a mask. They are protecting you. Or not.
Oddly, now that I have both doses of vax I wear a mask more than I did before--because I am out more. No one can seem to zero in on one recommendation about if I need to keep masking or not, so, I keep wearing. But it has lowered the stress level, enormously.
FWIW, when I see someone in public who is not wearing a mask, I don't judge--I just make a mental note and steer clear of them. It's easy. I do the same for homeless people who look like they may not smell nice.
