Let me begin by saying 2018 was a long damn year. I spent most of it living where I didn't want to be--in the River Market section of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Not that it's a bad place. It's just that I wasn't a "good fit," as they say, just before they fire you. After that stint, I moved to California, where I am right at the moment, and right after that I decided I didn't really care for the situation here.
It was an honest mistake. It's a college town, so it's fairly interesting compared to the typical central valley agricultural town in northern California, but it's also just another agricultural town. It's also a little too small to be truly convenient. As I say, it's convenient enough, as long as you don't need anything. Turns out that it is often necessary to drive to either Redding (70 miles away) or Sacramento (85 miles away) if you want anything that the typical understocked Target or K-Mart doesn't have to offer. Or health care. 'Nother story. Add to all that a general, across the board increased cost of everything, including taxes, and other than that not a lot going on, and there you have it in a nutshell.
Over Thanksgiving I met a woman in Tucson, Arizona. I know that has a certain ominous ring, but she's actually wonderful. I'm just going with the flow.
Happy new year.

Yes, go with that flow. And when you pass through Sac, HMU, as the kids say. Except they don't always capitalize, the ungrateful punks.
ReplyDeleteMy new year thing is if I have an impulse to post to Facebook, I stop myself. I still comment on others' stuff, though. Can't help it. They're fun.
I can see Chico getting to be a little small. I may as well interject that I have really come to love Sacramento. It's probably pricey, though. Except as compared to the Bay Area. Forget about that place.
Tucson, okay. I have friends and family in Phoenix. If I had to leave CA I could see going there. I think if I were in such dire straits, though, I'd just keep going and land my ass in New Orleans.
I'm sure the ancient Romans also lamented the total lack of grammatical precision among their young. Especially since, you know, there were so many ways to fuck up.
ReplyDeleteI should hmu, yes. I'm driving through soon but just a quick stop at the airport before I head south. To Lodi, and beyond! (Always, the beyond. Never stop there. Just ask ccr.) There will be other trips.
Yes, Chico is too small, and now that the population has grown by 20,000 or so, it's even worse. Tucson is too big, for what it is, but it has its perqs.
The Bay Area sukzor, as the kids may or may not say. I tried to cruise in a leisurely fashion through Palo Alto and stop for lunch while on a road trip to Santa Cruz, and totally gave up on the idea, as I wasted an hour halting, stalling, and crawling through downtown and El Camino. Then I remembered, oh yeah, I left that place in 1972 because it had gotten too crowded and expensive.
Going with the flow.
How did I miss this post? Nice that you have the freedom to flow with the go, not tird down with job or kitty. I’m a little jelly. I thought one met women in Winslow, Arizona? I need to brush up! Hehe, happy driving!

ReplyDeleteI'm mostly leaving a comment because I've moved over to Word Press as a result of the constant nagging (strike that) gentle encouragement of everyone. Apparently commenting on Blogger is a PITA when you're a non-Blogger person. I doubt that's true, and I am therefore sending this along as a test of that position.
ReplyDeleteYeah, see, I knew they were bitching for no reason.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, AD. I hope you read my post, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm genuinely impressed you managed a 01.01 post and that says nothing about you and everything about me. I can only say the idea crossed my mind so congratulations. You have definitely jumped into the New Year with a colorful splash. Now, as you say, you can go with the flow. Here's to many adventures in the year and years ahead. Always the beyond and might as well. The ground under our feet keeps changing whether we welcome it or not! Cheers!
