I went for a motorcycle ride today for no real reason except that I could. This will hold me over for the next week or so as we plummet toward winter solstice and the days grow shorter and the nights longer and blacker. I guess I'll see you on the other side.
You know, I have decided that the beauty
of these things is that you can see how
they work. Everything else seems to be
such a Goddamn mystery.
That's an interesting thought ... that you can see how they work. So many men on the dating sites mention motorcycles as an interest, though I never noticed men my age when I was dating in my 20s in Chicago or even out here caring much about them. So I thought it was more of an indulgence for guys as they had more money -- first you have the car, and then if there's extra you buy a bike, too. Anyway, it seems unreasonably cold here, not sure if it's me or what.
ReplyDeleteI remember lots of young guys in the 1960s and 1970s having motorcycles, (but not me) but if asked, they probably would not have listed them as "an interest." I'm sure there is some pathetically revealing explanation for men my age becoming interested in mounting loud, throbbing pieces of machinery while also wearing funny hats.
ReplyDeleteI won't pretend to be different. I suppose it could also be a re-capturing youth thing, but, right, cash flow has something to do with it. I was never interested in boats, but if I had been, I probably would buy one now.
I can't get into the Harley Davidson tribal, ritual bonding really loud thing that is mostly what you see, or probably notice, I will say that in my own defense. But my whole life I have not been a joiner, so why would I now?
