Something Good

By a remove of only a couple of Internet links (thanks to Kristiana, sometime blogger,) I stumbled across the idea of "pronoia," which is supposed to be the opposite of paranoia. I thought that was a real nice idea, even though to place it opposite paranoia implies that it would be the insane expectation that something good is going to happen to you.  But, well, you know, define insane.

I realize that paranoia, and negativity in general, probably does cause bad things to happen to us.  I mean, we're looking for it, right?  We expect it, and when it comes, we see it right off, and start fighting it. (And, crazy thing is, when you start fighting something, you become inextricably tangled up with it.)   Pronoia, on the other hand, could, at the very least, be just as simple and easy as not doing that.  But it could be even more, I'm thinking, if we started noticing good things as they wafted by.  The universe has everything in it, I'm told, and we are here just looking around and acting on what we see.  We are small, (no, really, we are,) so we can only interact with a small amount of things, but imagine what we have to pick and choose from.

So, of course this is not going to work, but it's a nice thought. And if I'm wrong, and the universe really is just waiting around looking for ways to help people, God loves a sarcastic bastard.

  1. Kristiana's awesome. Anyway, all that you say makes sense, the entangling, and the resulting amplification. I've always felt lucky and noticed good things, but lately, despite entanglements and complications I never imagined while married, I'm happier than ever too. Is it a pronoia thing? Or am I just crazy?

  2. I like this and i actually think I've been trying to do it (not re dating where mostly everyone is awful and if you fail to remember this, it's a bad thing). For me if i only notice more cats, I'm happier.

  4. You can't mean me? What did I do? I like the idea of pronoia, but I certainly don't not get tangled inextricably. I always don't. I'm quite tangled.
